Sean Astin and "Tolkien Forever" raise $1400 at ORC

LOS ANGELES, January 18, 2005 -- A special appearance by Sean Astin and Elijah Wood at "The One Ring Celebration" for fans of Lord of The Rings turned into a spontaneous fundraiser for Tsunami victims. Astin was answering questions from the audience when the topic of philanthropy came up.  Learning that the local LOTR fan club, "Tolkien Forever," was accepting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross, Astin immediately pledged $100.  By the time he got off stage, though, their booth was closed and the donations fish bowl was nowhere in sight.  So he grabbed an empty box, put $100 in, and began soliciting donations himself.  As the box began to fill, members of "Tolkien Forever" returned with their fish bowl and joined in the revived fundraising. Today, on behalf of his family, ORC attendees and "Tolkien Forever," Astin donated the $1400 raised, to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
